Kippax is a few minutes down the road from our base in Garforth, so it is one of the areas we are in most often, and one where we can usually get to an urgent fault the same day.
Like Garforth, Kippax grew around the pit, and the housing tells that story. The older terraces off High Street and around St Mary's were built for colliery families and often still carry wiring that has been extended a few times rather than replaced. The large post-war estates, most of them long since bought privately, are prime consumer unit territory. Newer building on the edges of the village and towards Allerton Bywater is a different job again, generally sound but rarely fitted with enough sockets or any outdoor supply.
Whether it is a full rewire on a pit terrace or garden lighting and a charger on a newer plot, the price is fixed in writing before anything starts.
