Guiseley sits where Leeds starts turning into Wharfedale. It is known far and wide as the home of the first Harry Ramsden's, which began next to the old tram stop at White Cross. Locally it is a good place to live, with a station straight into Leeds.

From weavers' cottages to 1930s estates
Guiseley was a farming village that grew into a mill town in the 1800s. The road to Kirkstall and Otley opened in 1830. The railway soon followed. Mills went up along Netherfield Road, with stone houses for the workers. Most of those mills are gone now, but the stone terraces are still here.
Mount Pleasant is a row of 11 stone houses built in 1845. Each one had a cloth workshop on the top floor. Much of the old centre is now a conservation area. In older stone homes, the wiring has often been added to bit by bit over the years.
Between the wars came new streets such as Moorland Crescent and Nunroyd Avenue. Tranmere Park, west of Bradford Road, was built from the 1930s to the 1960s, with large houses in big gardens. Homes of this age are classic candidates for a new fuse box or a rewire.
